Will Miss Langhorne be a princess?

March 16, 1907

The New York Times reports today that Washington and Virginian society are "deeply interested in a rumor from London" that Miss Nora Langhorne, "youngest of the five handsome daughters of C.D. Langhorne of Albemarle County, VA,  has captured the heart and received an offer of marriage" from Prince Francis of Teck, "the good-looking brother of the Princess of Wales."

It has been known for sometime that Prince Francis' family would allow him to marry a wealthy American, but "Miss Langhorne has not a great fortune."  Her brother-in-law, Waldorf Astor, and his father, William Waldorf Astor, however, "have more money than they know what to do with" and are said to be eager for this marriage that "would place them in the innermost circles of English society."
Under her sister, Nancy's, chaperonage, "Miss Nora Langhorne made her London debut last season and at once attracted the admiration of the smart world."

Prince Francis is the third of four children of the late Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge, Duchess of Teck and the Duke of Teck.   His elder brother, Prince Adolphus is the present Duke of Teck and his younger brother, Prince Alexander George, is married to Princess Alice of Athlone.   His sister, Mary, is the wife of Prince of Wales.
