Ena is in Rome

February 2, 1936

Former Queen Victoria Eugenia of Spain has arrived in Rome, reports the Associated Press.  But sources close to her estranged husband, King Alfonso XIII are making light of reports that the royal couple will reconcile.

Spanish Royalists in Paris had stated that the queen had "agreed to talk" to Alfonso, when she went to Rome.  The King now resides in the Italian capital.

It is believed that Alfonso would like to effect a reconciliation in order to "strengthen his position" with Spanish monarchists.

Queen Ena is said to be saying at Villa Savoia in Rome.  She is expected to visit her elder daughter, Infanta Beatriz, who is expecting a child very soon.
